How to Request Your Equifax Work Number Report

The Work Number, a division of Equifax, is a specialty credit reporting agency. Equifax Work Number sells employment history and income verification reports to employers, landlords, insurers, credit card companies, mortgage lenders, and government agencies. The Work Number database contains over 839 million employment records and tracks employees at all wage levels.

(1) More Information about the Equifax Work Number Report

Equifax Work Number collects detailed information straight from employer payroll systems. Each pay period, more than 5 million employers send their employment and income data to The Work Number, either directly or through payroll providers

The data gathered includes a worker’s full name, job titles, start and end dates of employment, and overall job status. It also collects detailed income history, such as hourly wages, salary, bonuses, commissions, tax withholdings, post-secondary education records, and job applicant background screening data.

Many different types of customers buy these reports. Lenders—such as mortgage brokers, car dealers, and credit card companies—buy income and employment checks to make sure borrowers can afford a loan. Landlords use them to screen prospective tenants. Companies use them to confirm resume details when hiring new workers, and government social service agencies buy them to check if applicants qualify for public benefits like SNAP or Medicaid.

Even though Equifax Workforce Solutions does not sell credit scores on its website, the employment and salary data it sells is frequently used alongside credit scores. When a person applies for credit, lenders often pull a traditional credit score from a credit bureau and combine it with income data from Equifax Workforce Solutions to get a complete picture of the applicant’s financial health.

(2) Request an Equifax Work Number Report by Telephone or Mail

Request a copy of your Equifax Work Number Report by telephone (866-222-5880 or 800-367-2884) or by mail (Equifax Workforce Solutions, Attn: EDR, 3470 Rider Trail South, Earth City, MO 63045).

Equifax Work Number also offers an online portal for consumer requests. However, you should proceed with caution – the Equifax Work Number “Terms of Use” and “Privacy Policy” forces consumers to forfeit substantial legal rights to access their report.

(3) Request an Equifax Work Number Report Online

Special Scores provides an online option to request your Equifax Work Number Report.

(4) Dispute Errors in Your Equifax Work Number Report

If you find information in your consumer report that you believe is inaccurate or incomplete, you may have the legal right to dispute the report’s content with the consumer reporting company and the company that shared the information to the reporting company. Under federal law, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), companies must conduct a reasonable investigation of your dispute. The company that provided the incorrect information must correct the error, and notify every consumer reporting company to whom it provided the inaccurate information.
