How to Request Your Experian RentBureau Report
Experian RentBureau is a nationwide specialty consumer reporting agency owned by Experian. It is the largest specialty rental payment database in the United States, tracking millions of renter payment histories across the country. When consumers apply to rent an apartment or house, landlords and property screening companies check RentBureau records to see how reliably applicants have paid their rent in the past.
(1) More Information about the Experian RentBureau Report
To build these consumer profiles, Experian RentBureau collects specific details about a person’s rental habits. The database tracks lease agreements, monthly rent payment records (both on-time payments and late payments), and histories of returned checks or nonsufficient funds (NSF). It also records outstanding rental debt balances, rental-related collections activity, and lease term compliance. This information is updated daily by over 20,000 data furnishers, including property managers and electronic rent-payment platforms.
The main customers who buy Experian RentBureau reports and data are property management companies, residential landlords, and tenant screening agencies. Multifamily housing operators purchase access to these reports to quickly evaluate applicant risk, reduce unpaid rental balances, and approve responsible tenants faster. Collection agencies and electronic payment services also use the platform to track uncollected balances and update payment activity.
A major feature of Experian RentBureau is how it connects rental history directly to standard credit reporting. On-time positive rent payments recorded in RentBureau are automatically sent to Experian’s main credit database every month. This helps renters build a credit history through normal monthly bill payments. It is especially helpful for “thin-file” renters or credit-invisible individuals who have limited traditional credit card or loan histories.
According to Experian’s corporate website, RentBureau does not sell a standalone brand-name credit score created exclusively by RentBureau. Instead, the rental payment data collected by RentBureau is built directly into standard FICO Scores and VantageScore models calculated using Experian credit reports. By adding positive rental attributes into these scoring engines, consumers can see an increase in their credit scores. Additionally, Experian utilizes this RentBureau infrastructure for consumer tools like Experian Boost, allowing renters to manually add qualifying rent payments directly to their Experian credit report to improve their scores.

(4) Dispute Errors in Your Experian RentBureau Report
If you find information in your consumer report that you believe is inaccurate or incomplete, you may have the legal right to dispute the report’s content with the consumer reporting company and the company that shared the information to the reporting company. Under federal law, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), companies must conduct a reasonable investigation of your dispute. The company that provided the incorrect information must correct the error, and notify every consumer reporting company to whom it provided the inaccurate information.
