How to Request Your Early Warning Report
Early Warning Services (EWS) is a techology company that tracks checking and savings accounts. Early Warning is owned and operated by America’s largest banks: Bank of America; Truist (BB&T and SunTrust); Capital One; JPMorgan Chase; PNC Bank; U.S. Bank; and Wells Fargo. You might also know Early Warning because it runs Zelle, the largest money-transfer app by volume. Unlike traditional credit bureaus that track credit cards and car loans, Early Warning focuses entirely on how people use their bank accounts. Financial institution use the Early Warning Report and Deposit Risk Score to verify identities, track banking activity, and reduce risk.
(1) More Information about the Early Warning Report
Early Warning collects certain personal and financial information to build its credit reports. This includes basic details like your name, address, date of birth, and Social Security number. Early Warning also tracks your banking history, such as the names of the banks where you have accounts, account open and close dates, account status, and negative items. These negative items can include unpaid overdraft fees, returned checks, accounts closed because of abuse or misuse, and fraud alerts.
The main customers who buy these reporting products are banks, credit unions, payment processors, and other financial companies. These institutions use Early Warning products when a customer applies to open a new checking or savings account. By checking the report, banks can quickly see if an applicant has a history of money troubles or fraud at other banks. This helps the institutions decide whether to approve the new account, put a hold on deposits, or turn the applicant down to avoid losing money. Early Warning also sells the Early Warning Deposit Score, which is used by banks to evaluate the risk of opening a new checking or savings account.
When you deposit a check via mobile deposit or at an ATM, the bank often queries Early Warning in milliseconds before deciding whether to make funds available immediately or place a hold. Early Warning’s algorithms evaluate the issuing account’s balance history, previous check returns, and account longevity behind the scenes to calculate real-time check-kiting and default risks.

Under federal law, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), companies must conduct a reasonable investigation of your dispute. The company that provided the incorrect information must correct the error, and notify every consumer reporting company to whom it provided the inaccurate information.
